Custom
Orthotics

What They
Are:
Orthotics are inserts which are worn inside footwear. Custom-made
by a laboratory to the exact molds of the patient’s feet, orthotics
are constructed of layers of soft materials, reinforced with more
rigid materials. Orthotics allow the muscles and tendons to perform
more efficiently.
Benefits:
By guiding the feet through proper functions, orthotics allow the
muscles, tendons and bones of the feet and lower legs to function
at their greatest potential. When appropriately prescribed, orthotics
can decrease pain, not only in the foot, but in other parts of the
body such as the knee, hip and lower back.
Recommended
for:
Although almost everyone can benefit from wearing custom orthotics,
they are especially recommended for people who must walk or stand
excessively on the job as well as older adults experiencing arthritis.
For those who are active in sports, orthotics will often increase
endurance, performance and strength.
Compression
Stockings

What They Are:
Compression stockings are constructed from elastic fibers and are
available in a wide range of opacities, colors, styles and sizes,
making them virtually indistinguishable from regular hosiery or socks.
They offer graduated compression where maximum compression is achieved
at the ankle and decreases as you move up the leg.
Benefits:
The compression provided by the stockings, when combined with the
muscle pump effect of the calf, aids in circulating blood and lymph
fluid through the legs. The elasticized fibers help compress the limb,
aiding in circulation and preventing tired achy legs.
Recommended
for:
As in the case of orthotics, almost everyone can benefit from wearing
support hosiery. They are especially recommended for the prevention
and treatment of varicose veins, edema (swelling) or to increase endurance
during sports. People in professions where they must frequently stand,
walk or sit will find that support stockings prevent any swelling
and aching in their legs.
What You Need:
Custom-made
orthotics and compression stockings are covered by most extended health
plans so please bring your insurance coverage booklet and
insurance card (with ID and plan #) when you book your
appointment. To be eligible for coverage, these services require
a prescription from your medical doctor. Please ensure
that your doctor provides a diagnosis and
a compression level for the stockings (usually
20-30mmHg). If you are unsure of your insurance coverage or have any
questions please contact our office and we will be glad to speak to
your insurance company on your behalf.
