Colonic irrigation therapy is the use of distilled water (under mild pressure) to clean out the entire colon, ridding waste, microbes, and putrefied matter. This therapy is different from a regular enema as it uses a modern machine that circulates (irrigates) the water through the entire colon, up to the ileo-cecal valve. Most enemas cleans only the lower portion of the colon.
